“The forest is a peculiar organism of unlimited kindness and benevolence that makes no demands for its sustenance and extends generously the products of its life activity; it affords protection to all beings, offering shade even to the axe-man who destroys it.”

Guatama Buddha

Monday 21st March 2022 is International Day of Forests, a day set up by the United Nations in 2013 to recognise the significance of trees, celebrate their incredible function on our planet and fight against climate change due to deforestation.

A Few Forest Facts:

  • Every year more than 32 million acres of forest are lost, an area the size of England, putting world biodiversity in serious danger
  • Research shows that forest therapy is a key way to treat anxiety and depression
  • 24% of all the world’s medicine comes from tropical forest plants
  • Forests not only house 300 million people around the world, they are also home to more than three quarters of the world’s life on land

What can we do on International Day of Forests?

  • Plant a tree! If you don’t have space in your own garden to plant a tree, there are many organisations that can plant a tree on your behalf
  • Visit a forest – and boost your mental wellbeing
  • Share the official logo or banner to highlight the day https://www.fao.org/international-day-of-forests/logo-banners/en/
  • Use the #IntlForestDay to join the conversation on social media and raise awareness of the issues

Here at Wilson’s we’re making sure to plant as many trees as we can!
