Wilson Tree Surgery

by Wilson Tree Surgery |

Across the world, there are approximately 3 trillion trees with a mere 3 billion of those grown in the U.K. As we know, woods and trees are vital for a healthy, happy society, they lock up carbon to fight climate change, improve our health and wellbeing and support people, wildlife and livestock. Despite this, most trees are something we take no notice of every day, so we’ve dug out our favourites that have chosen unconventional spots to put down their roots.

1. Courthouse Tree Location: Greensburg, Indiana

For over 100 years, this Indiana town has had a tree growing out the top of the local courthouse.

2. Fairy Lake Bonsai Tree Location: Port Renfrew, British Columbia

Defying all odds, this lonely little tree found a home on a log sticking out of a Canadian lake. 70 miles from Victoria, Vancouver Island, you can find this tree on the quiet waters of Fairy Lake.

3. The “World’s Most Remote Tree” Location: Tchirozérine, Niger

“The Most Isolated Tree in the World” is now deceased and was killed by a (probably drunk) driver. The acacia was the only tree for 250 miles and was used as a landmark by travellers and caravans until 1973 when someone drove into it. It now lives dried in the Niger National Museum.

4. “Solidarity Tree” Location: Wanaka, New Zealand

“That Wanaka Tree”, also known as the Wanaka Willow, is a willow tree located at the southern end of Lake Wānaka in the Otago region of New Zealand. The tree has been described as “New Zealand’s most famous tree” and is one of the most photographed trees in New Zealand.

5. Two in one Tree Location: Grana, Italy

This Tree consists of a cherry tree growing on top of a mulberry tree, creating a kind of two-tiered, two-species hybrid duplex. While it’s not completely uncommon for a small tree to grow on a larger one, it is rare to see two fully grown trees in such an unusual configuration.
